Well, my summer is off to an interesting start. For one, I went to a K-pop concert with my mom‘s 72-year-old best friend, Cindy. She has been obsessed with K-pop for a while now and has wanted to see them in concert, but no one would go with her, not even her own daughters. I don’t blame them as I myself am not into K-pop, but she begged me to go with her and even said she would pay my way. I felt bad that no one wanted to go with her so I agreed. She’s 72 and has been in bad health for many years (obese, diabetes, high BP, has had heart stents put in due to clogged arteries, severe arthritis in both knees so can’t walk well, requires an oxygen machine a good bit of the time, sleep apnea, etc.), so I kind of saw this has her last chance to go to a concert. We ended up driving out of state to see the band MONSTA X. And, I’m happy to say that I actually did have a lot of fun! We fit a lot into this trip. We ate dim sum, visited Cindy‘s oldest daughter and her kids, swam in the hotel pool, went to a K-pop store, and ate Korean food. The hotel we stayed at was very nice and had a really good free breakfast with yummy scrambled eggs, sausage, and a pancake machine. A lot of the other hotel guests were also in town to see the concert and Cindy had fun making friends with them and talking all about the band members. I can’t believe how many older women are so into these young Korean men! They like, know all of their life history and details, it’s wild! They also are extremely attracted to them and think they are so hot! Young Korean men who look very feminine and wear make up definitely aren’t my type, but to each her own! The concert itself was also a lot of fun. They definitely know how to put on a good show with lasers, streamers, confetti, catchy songs, bass, and good dancing. It was a good time and I’m glad I went with Cindy and that she had fun. She had a blast so I was glad to do it. We actually almost didn’t go to the concert because Cindy got more and more worried about catching Covid if we went. Because she’s older and has so many health problems, she has been very cautious ever since the pandemic started. Cautious almost bordering on paranoid - I can’t even tell you how many Covid tests she has taken because she thought every little sniffle or symptom could be Covid even though she hadn’t gone anywhere or been around anyone. That just shows you how badly she wanted to go to the concert that she put aside her fear of Covid and went anyway.
So this is where it gets even more interesting. After having a great time with Cindy going to the concert, I got home and noticed right away that Nick sounded sick. He brushed it off, but I encouraged him to take a Covid test in the morning before going into work. Lo and behold, Nick tested positive for Covid! Luckily, his symptoms were mild and his job let him work from home. Of course, I myself developed symptoms a couple days later because we had already been in close contact. I tested positive about three days after my symptoms started. My symptoms started with a sore throat, but that didn’t last long. It then progressed into a cough, a runny nose, and a lot of sneezing. I also briefly had chills one day but that may have been due to something else. Neither one of us had fevers. Nick briefly lost his taste and smell but it came back within a couple of days. I lost my taste and smell last Friday. It is now Thursday of the following week and while some taste and smell has returned, it hasn’t fully come back. I felt like I had been on the mend but in the last couple of days, my sinuses have been very congested and the pressure has been pretty painful. I got some sinus congestion medicine and that helped a lot, although today I am blowing my nose constantly.
So yes, this is my first week of summer vacation and it has sucked because I have been sick with Covid and have not been able to go anywhere or do anything. I had been hoping to visit family this weekend and do fun summery things like cookout and swim, but that will have to wait as I still don’t feel 100%. Nick would catch Covid, pass it to me, and ruin my first week of vacation! FML!!!! At least he is back at work this week and I have the house to myself. It’s just depressing to see everyone’s fun summer pics on Facebook while I’m stuck inside doing nothing. I am resting and taking care of myself but this stupid thing is lingering. Today is day 9 since symptoms started. I hope it goes away soon.
Funny that Cindy and I were worried about catching Covid from the K-pop concert when it was my own husband who gave it to me in the end! I’m at least VERY thankful for the vaccines and that I’m still alive!
