I've been busy being back at work and haven't been able to finish telling about the rest of my summer break. After Maine, I immediately went on a beach trip with my family (mom and 2 sisters) in our home state. I literally landed Friday evening from Maine and went to the beach with them on Saturday lol. Tight turnaround!
We rented a different unit in the same condo this year and it was very nice. It had nice upgrades, such as granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, nice furniture, etc. Swanky! I got a room to myself this year since I shared a room last year and luckily, the bed in my room was super comfortable.
We had a nice week at the beach and did what we do every year - ate large breakfasts of scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and fruit, sat on the beach for hours, snacked on farm-made chicken salad and pimento cheese with crackers, and swam. While I love being in the ocean, for the last 2 years, I have been "stung" by sea lice, aka jellyfish larvae. They are microscopic, so you can't see them with the naked eye, but you just feel this sudden little sting and then you start itching. Last year was awful as the stings became a rash that progressively got worse over the course of the week until my whole torso (not really arms or legs) was covered in itchy spots. I had to douse myself with cortisone and Benadryl creams to stop the itch and it took a few weeks after the beach to completely go away. No one else was affected! This year wasn't as bad, but it's hard to enjoy swimming in the ocean when you feel little stings and start itching! At times, the itching would become so unbearable that we would get out and jump into the condo pool for relief. I guess the chlorine killed it? Idk. This year, my mom and sisters felt the stings and itching, not just me. Luckily, I did not develop a severe rash like last year, but you could definitely see several red spots on my side boob. They love the side boob.
An upside to this beach trip compared to last year is that we did actually go out to eat at restaurants whereas last year, we did pick-up only. We actually couldn't do pick-up from the nicer seafood places this year as many of them have stopped doing to-go orders since so many more people are going inside now and they just can't do both. I was determined to not just eat all fried seafood platters, so I tried some different things. I especially loved the seafood pasta I got that had salmon and shrimp in a creamy, garlicky, and probably buttery sauce. SO YUM! I'm actually going to recreate one of them tonight for dinner.
That trip was a fun time but after so much travelling, I was definitely ready to be in my own home, in my own bed, and with my little orange kitty, Ollie! I had been away from him for 2 weeks!! I missed my little kitty so much.
I was also glad to get a break from Amber and all the pre-pregnancy talk. Since she's trying to get pregnant, she brought all of her own special organic food to the beach instead of eating what the rest of us ate. She's read up on all these toxins and stuff and doesn't eat a lot of things now. Keep in mind that Amber wasn't actually pregnant on this trip, but the mere thought that she *could be* had her avoiding so many things. It's like, can you wait until you miss a period at least to suspect you're pregnant? She just went off the pill and had not even had one natural period yet, but assumed she would get pregnant immediately. Sure, some women do, but most people don't. She even took a few pregnancy tests during the trip even though she hadn't missed her period yet and they weren't early detection tests. What a waste of money! Sure enough, towards the end of our trip, her period showed up. She and her husband were very disappointed, but it's like, relax a little! You literally just stopped birth control, it may take a little time. Just have fun with it, but they want a baby, like, immediately, even though her husband is unvaccinated and refuses to get vaccinated for his soon-to-be-pregnant wife and future baby. I don't understand that, but her husband is kind of a strange guy. I'm just tired of hearing about things you can't do "while pregnant" when she's not even actually pregnant. I get that this will be her first baby and she just wants to do everything right, but it just seems like a bit much to me. She's eating all this organic stuff, buying expensive non-toxic makeup, and yet her husband won't get a vaccine for this deadly virus going around? She's bending over backward to make sure their baby is healthy, but yet he's putting them both at risk. She's at least vaccinated and the risk is greater to him, but okay, what if he dies and leaves her a pregnant widow? Or he dies before she can even get pregnant? That wouldn't be good, would it? He just firmly believes he won't get it or if he does, it won't be bad enough to send him to the hospital or kill him. What a stubborn guy. Oh well, her problem.
I have more to update on, but I might sneak out of work a little early. Over it already and students aren't even here yet! They start on Monday.
